As handlers we have, for a number of years, just told our dog to "Jump" in Dog Agility without considering the complexity of what we are asking. Susan Salo (USA) is a noted horsewomen and has utilised much of her experience from the world of Grand Prix show jumping, to develop lessons and exercises for dogs. Susan’s methodology develops better jumping skills and instills confidence and speed on course.
At this stage, Susan Salo has not been successfully convinced to visit Australia (she would rather not be separated from Patrick, her Jack Russell Terrier). Whilst not professing to have Susan’s expertise, Cathy Slot has spent time learning from her in Canada at Say Yes Dog Training (beginners through to advanced dogs), as well as helping handlers/dogs in Australia, and would like to work with those interested in developing their dog’s jumping style and skills utilising Susan’s methodology.
Cathy will spend the weekend of 28-29 June 2008 sharing and working through Susan’s Foundation exercises with interested handlers and their dogs.
Working spots will be limited and will be on a first in – first served basis. Dogs are not required to be jumping/competing in order to take working spots however, to maximise the opportunities for the whole group, dogs registering need to have some semblance of sit/stay.
General Information
• Combination of lecture and hands on.
• Unlimited auditors.
• The organisers and/or instructor may nominate which dogs will work the session or exercise.
• Workshop sessions start 9.00 am and finish 5.00 pm. Registrations commence 8.30 am.
• Handlers working a dog may arrange for workshop co-participants to video sessions when they are working their dog but may not video other dogs or Cathy lecturing.
• The cost will be $150-00 for the two days for Dogs with Handlers and $80-00 for Auditors for the two days. Auditors can also register for Saturday only at a cost of $50-00
