Susan Garrett Workshops

SUSAN GARRETT, SAY YES DOG TRAINING

Susan Garrett is recognised as the most highly successful Clicker Trainer in the world. Her dogs have achieved the top in Agility (every dog Susan has ever trialed in agility has won two or more National Championship events), Obedience and Flyball. Susan has previously visited Australia in June 2003, March 2005 and March 2007.

Say Yes Dog Training Inc. is one of North America’s leading dog training facilities. Their cutting-edge approach to training develops both well-behaved family pets as well as world champions of numerous canine sports.

Gone is the myth that only certain breeds of dogs can achieve greatness. Susan’s program ensures that owners of all dogs and all breeds achieve their goals, from the high-drive, out-of-control dogs to the motivationally challenged ones that need more confidence to work at their peak. Her innovative, progressive approach to dog training will enable you to overcome any challenge and help you to develop a lifelong, harmonious relationship with your dog.

The Say Yes philosophy is to train dogs without physical or verbal corrections. Their goal is to train owners to bring out the best in their dogs, focusing on positive reinforcement and lateral thinking to come up with training solutions. The results are dogs that are as focused and driven about their work as their owners are about training them.

Say Yes is owned and operated by Susan Garrett and John Blenkey. John is a well respected CKC, AKC and BKC obedience judge. Susan is recognised world-wide as a leading educator of dog trainers. In total her dogs have over 50 top ten placements at National Agility Championships including 18 First Place finishes and 6 Second Place finishes, numerous obedience High In Trials and has been a member of multiple world record holding flyball teams.

This will be a very special five days of dog training with Susan, with an inspirational lecture at the end of the first day, amidst two days of foundations (that apply whether your dog is going to be a pet or a world champion), with following sessions progressively building skills, including Susan’s methods of teaching both contacts (with a nose touch) and weave poles (2x2 method).

Two Day Workshop Details

Advances in Dog Training (2 Days)
Topic Details:
In this two day program Susan shows you how the science of dog training has been successfully applied in her Say Yes Dog Training program. A must for all pet and competition minded dog owners.
The seminar is an opportunity for anyone interested in any aspect of dog training to hear it from one of the world’s best. Day one of this exciting program will review fundamental principles of dog training and work on improving your mechanics as a trainer.
Susan will show you how to apply learning theory into your everyday dog training. Understanding why your dog does what he does will help you work through training challenges facing you in any area of competitive dog training or just pet ownership! Learn how to teach your dog both control for stationary positions (like contacts and sit stays) and incredible motivation so you will have a dog that WANTS to work at any skill you want to work on.
Included in these two days are some of Susan’s very popular games such as: ItsYerChoice and Crate Games. These two games form the foundation of Susan’s Say Yes Dog Training program which has helped many dogs become National or World Champions.
Prerequisite for Handlers with Dogs: All participants must have worked up to at least Stage 3 of Susan’s DVD "Crate Games". Dogs will only be used occasionally during each day.
Please Note: Due to the content of this lecture-focused presentation the price for the workshop is the same for those coming with or without dogs.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Attendance at Advances in Dog Training is a prerequisite for participation in all other dog training workshops with Susan (this and future visits). Don’t miss out on this opportunity.

Single Day Workshop Details

Flatwork Secrets for Handling Success (1 Day)
Topic Details: This new program is made up of more than 20 exercises that Susan has done with her own young dogs but never found a way to include into her program in the past. All of these drills require little to no equipment and help prepare your dog to fluidly follow your body when he finally gets to real agility handling. She is confident the elements of this program have been critical, not only in teaching her young dog how to understand handling maneuvers, but also have been instrumental in teaching her how to turn tightly over jumps.
Not just for novice dogs! A lack of success at any level of agility can often be traced to a weakness of foundation. This incredibly action packed day will cover the flatwork skills necessary to create brilliance in your agility dog. Included in this session will be Shadow handling skills such as: circle work, deceleration, crosses, rear cross fundamentals, using your crate to teach distance, driving lines plus a few one and two jump exercises.
This session will be valuable both for puppies and Advanced/Masters level agility dogs.
Prerequisite for ALL Participants: Must have attended Advances in Dog Training.
Prerequisite for Handlers with Dog: It is mandatory that all dogs participating in the seminar have a strong understanding in Crate Games.

Handling Basics (1 Day)
Topic Details: Join Susan to clean up your dog’s understanding of handling, working through a day of skills using only 2 or 3 jumps!
Advanced handling moves such as 270’s 180’s, push throughs and threadles are all broken down into the core elements. Susan shows you how to raise your dog’s understanding of handling complex courses using only 2 or 3 jumps.
Prerequisite for ALL Participants: Must have attended Advances in Dog Training.
Prerequisite for Handlers with Dogs: It is mandatory that all dogs participating in the seminar have a strong understanding in Crate Games.

Progressions on Contacts and Weave Poles.... (1 Day)
Topic Details: Susan’s innovative approach to dog training has allowed her to come up with her own unique system to teach both contacts and weaves. Her techniques are now taught throughout the world and successfully used by competitors such as Greg Derrett, Terry Smorch and many others. Some of the fastest contact performances in the world come from dogs taught in Susan’s nose touch system. More recently her new 2x2 method of weave pole training is quickly being accepted as the very best way to teach dogs how to find any seemingly impossible weave entries. Many dogs taught this way can learn to weave amazingly in less than 3 weeks of training (from start to finish!).
This day will be mostly lecture with some demonstration.
Prerequisite for ALL Participants: Must have attended Advances in Dog Training.
Handlers with Dogs: Registrations will not be taken for Handler with Dog places. Instead, a dog will be invited (for each topic) to assist with demonstrations, and for Susan to use to work through exercises.
